Nancy Macey was a founding director of the Delta Hospice Society and held the position of Board President for 3 years before being hired in 1994 as the Society’s first Executive Director. Between 2008 and 2010 Nancy also fulfilled the roles of project manager and major fundraiser for the capital building project. Working full-time, Nancy is responsible for the development and overall management of the Society’s programs and services in accordance with policies set by the governing Board of Directors. Nancy is a member of the Leadership Team along with the Associate Director and Hospice Residence Care Team Leader.

Since 2001, Chris has been instrumental in building and supporting links between trained client volunteers and individuals and families who contact Delta Hospice for help. As Coordinator of Volunteers, she is responsible for the overall management of the client volunteers including recruitment, screening, initial training, orientation, registration, matching volunteers with the people we serve, and volunteer support, supervision and on-going training.

Marg joined Delta Hospice in 1992, bringing with her extensive experience in teaching and grief and loss counselling. As a registered clinical counsellor, Marg offers individual and family counselling from the time of diagnosis of a life threatening illness, through the journeys of illness, at the end of life and for complex grief following an anticipated or sudden death.

As a member of the Fraser Health Palliative Care Consultation Team Marg is a consultant for complex psychosocial distress, counselling support for care team members, assistance with admission to hospice residences and education for professional care providers, support staff, volunteers and the public.

Anne Walker

Anne joined Delta Hospice in 2010 from the Burnaby Hospital Regional Cancer Centre Outpatient Clinic where she provided support and guidance to people with all stages of cancer, their families and friends. Anne has a strong interest in complementary therapies including relaxation and mindfulness meditation which focus on stress reduction and mind/body interactions for healing. Anne has studied under Dora Kunz and Dr. Dolores Krieger, Co-Founders of Therapeutic Touch and has attended programs facilitated by Dr. Jon Kabat Zin, who founded the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program.

Since 2002, Tama has facilitated day-to-day operations of the Society’s Care Centre, now called the Harold & Veronica Centre for Supportive Care. Tama’s strong organizational and multi-tasking skills support her roles in administration, human resources, finance, safety, technology, facility maintenance as well as the scheduling and support of the centre’s reception volunteer team. Tama’s full-time role includes facets of responsibilities for administration, facility maintenance and human resources for the Irene Thomas Hospice and Hospice Cottage Thrift Store.

Laurine has been with Delta Hospice since 1999 and adapted to fill a variety of roles throughout the transition and growth of the organization. Laurine’s corporate background in regulation and law now supports her work developing and maintaining the society’s operating policies and procedures, implementing continuous quality improvement, earning accreditation, supporting human resource management and providing administrative support for the Board of Directors. Laurine is the Privacy Officer for the Society. Laurine is a member of the Leadership Team along with the Executive Director and Hospice Residence Care Team Leader.

Janice began with Delta Hospice in 2011 in a part-time position responsible for donor and membership management. As well as being a Certified Management Accountant, Janice is proficient in Raiser’s Edge software that accommodates donation and membership functions including maintenance of membership and donation records, preparation of tax receipts and personalized donor thank you letters. Janice brings a high level of personal values and commitment to her work.

Heather Mohan Heather Mohan, PhD, RCC, MTA

Heather joined the Delta Hospice Society in March 2011. She comes to Delta from North Vancouver, where she worked for the past 13 years as the Coordinator of the Family Bereavement Program and Arts Therapy Services for the North Shore Hospice/Palliative Care Program. In this role Heather facilitated grief support groups and counselling services for children, parents, youth and adults, provided music therapy for palliative care patients and offered education on psychosocial issues in palliative/bereavement care for health care professionals, support staff and volunteers. In 2007 she founded Canada’s first family bereavement retreat program called ‘Camp Kerry’.

Heather’s approach to counselling is holistic, family-centred and expressive-arts based. She specializes in working with children who have suffered the loss of a loved one.

Dalyce joined the organization in 2007 and brought with her the energy and enthusiasm needed to enhance public and community relations and to build and support community partnerships for 3rd party fundraising events. In her part-time role as Communications Coordinator, she works closely with the Executive Director to implement the society’s overall communications strategy including educational and printed material, website content, media articles and advertising.

Catherine brought her enthusiasm and commitment when she joined Delta Hospice in 2009 and participated in the startup of the Irene Thomas Hospice. In her full-time position as Care Team Leader, Catherine uses her skills and experience as a Registered Nurse and a passion for building collaborative teams to support individuals, families and community. She is responsible for the daily operation of the Irene Thomas Hospice and works closely with the hospitals, community health and Fraser Health Hospice Palliative Care Teams. Catherine is a member of the Leadership Team along with the Executive Director and the Associate Director.

Hospice Cottage Thrift Store Staff
Sandy Schmidt Sandy Schmidt
Thrift Store Coordinator of Volunteers

 

Since 1998, Sandy has been responsible for management of the thrift store volunteers including recruitment, orientation, scheduling and support, as well as ensuring that the volunteers have a safe and appropriate work environment along with the supplies and equipment necessary to operate the store. In this part time position Sandy is the first point of contact for all new volunteers at the Hospice Cottage Thrift Store and provides on-going support to the team of almost 200 volunteers.

 


The Inventory Coordinator Team
While the Hospice Cottage Thrift Store volunteers operate the store, the Inventory Coordinator Team supports the volunteers by helping to manage the incoming and outgoing inventory and recycling.

Jan Winfield Jan Winfield

Jan started as a thrift store volunteer in 2007. From 2008 to 2010 Jan also volunteered as President of the Delta Hospice Society Board Directors. In 2010, Jan joined the Inventory Coordinator Team in a part-time position.

Margaret Reid Margaret Reid

 

Margaret has been with Delta Hospice since 2007 when she began as a Cottage volunteer. In 2011 she joined the Inventory Coordinator Team as a casual then was hired as a permanent part time Inventory Coordinator beginning in February 2012.

Ginny Vetrie-Stevenson Ginny Vetrie-Stevenson

 

Ginny joined the Inventory Coordinator Team in 2007 in a permanent part-time position.  During 2011 she worked as a casual housekeeper with the Care Team at the Irene Thomas Hospice.
